Dr. Derrick and Amber Hildebrant
Derrick is a 25-year military veteran of the U.S. Air Force (Oklahoma Air National Guard), a multi-vocational pastor, and a Bible translation consultant in residency. He sensed a call to ministry in 2009, began pastoring in 2014, and has served the local church faithfully for more than a decade.
After retiring from the military in 2023, Derrick joined EPI to serve on staff in missions by equipping indigenous pastors and ministry leaders to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ and build up the church. His ministry work has taken him to Madagascar, India, Nigeria, and remote islands in the Pacific.
Derrick and Amber live in Catoosa, Oklahoma. They met in high school in Tulsa and married in 2002 while in college. Derrick came to faith in Christ during his college years and soon began serving through evangelism ministries in his local church. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Health Education and Promotion from Oklahoma State University.
Called into ministry in 2009, Derrick began theological education through The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary, earning his MDiv in 2017, ThM in 2022, and PhD in 2025. His doctoral research focused on the use of discourse analysis and biblical languages to strengthen expository preaching.
Derrick and Amber have a deep love for the local church. Since 2014, they have been involved in church-planting and church-merging efforts, and they are members of Journey Bible Church in Tulsa, Oklahoma, where Derrick serves as a teaching pastor/elder and Amber homeschools their seven children. Together, they are committed to seeing the gospel go forth from the local church to the nations and to equipping pastors and their families for the work of ministry.
